سفر يعقوب الإصحاح الثالث

¹Now I Jacob had spoken a great deal to my people — but I can only write a few of my words because of the difficulty of engraving metal plates. We know what we put on plates will last,²and whatever we write on anything other than plates will be lost and fade away. So we write a few words on plates, and they’ll give our descendants and dear brothers and sisters a little knowledge about us or their forefathers. ³We’re pleased to do this, and we work carefully to engrave these words, hoping our dear people and our descendants will be thankful for them. We hope they’ll study them carefully so they can understand their ancestors, be grateful, and not disregard them. ⁴We’ve written these things for this purpose: so they learn we knew about Christ and had a hope of glory in Him hundreds of years before His coming. And it wasn’t just us who had a hope of His glory, but so did the holy prophets before us.

¹والآن أنا يعقوب قد تكلمتُ كثيرًا لشعبي — لكني لا أستطيع أن أكتب إلا قليلًا من كلامي بسبب صعوبة النقش على الألواح المعدنية. ونحن نعلم أن ما نكتبه على الألواح سيبقى، ²وأما ما نكتبه على غير الألواح فسيضيع ويتلاشى. لذلك نكتب كلمات قليلة على الألواح، وهي تعطي نسلنا وإخوتنا وأخواتنا الأحباء معرفة قليلة عنا أو عن آبائهم. ³ونحن مسرورون أن نفعل هذا، ونعمل بعناية لننقش هذه الكلمات، راجين أن يكون شعبنا الأحباء ونسلنا شاكرين لها. ونأمل أن يدرسوها بعناية ليفهموا آباءهم، ويكونوا ممتنين، ولا يستخفّوا بها. ⁴وقد كتبنا هذه الأمور لهذا الغرض: لكي يعلموا أننا عرفنا عن المسيح وكان لنا رجاء بالمجد فيه قبل مجيئه بمئات السنين. ولم نكن نحن فقط من كان له رجاء بمجده، بل كذلك الأنبياء القديسون الذين كانوا قبلنا.

⁵They believed in Christ and worshiped the Father in His name, and we also worship the Father in His name. This is the reason we keep the Law of Moses, since it points our souls to Him. This lets us honor Him and His righteousness, just as it was credited to Abraham, in the wilderness, for being obedient to God’s commands in offering his son Isaac. That event symbolized God and His Only Begotten Son. ⁶Therefore we carefully study the prophets and have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy. Because we have all these witnesses, we obtain hope and our faith becomes unshaken, so we can actually command in Jesus’ name and even the trees, mountains, or waves of the sea obey us. ⁷Nevertheless, the Lord God shows us our weaknesses so we know it’s by His grace and great acts of condescension for mankind that we receive power to do these things.

⁵وقد آمنوا بالمسيح وعبدوا الآب باسمه، ونحن أيضًا نعبد الآب باسمه. ولهذا نحفظ شريعة موسى، لأنها توجّه نفوسنا إليه. وهذا يمكّننا أن نكرّمه وبرّه، كما حُسب لإبراهيم في البرية، حين أطاع أوامر الله وقدّم ابنه إسحاق. وكان ذلك رمزًا لله ولابنه الوحيد. ⁶لذلك ندرس الأنبياء بعناية ولدينا إعلانات كثيرة وروح النبوّة. وبسبب كل هذه الشهادات نحصل على رجاء ويثبت إيماننا، حتى إننا نستطيع أن نأمر باسم يسوع، فتطيعنا حتى الأشجار أو الجبال أو أمواج البحر. ⁷ومع ذلك، فإن الرَّبّ الله يُظهر لنا ضعفنا لنعلم أنه بنعمته وعظيم تَدَنِّيه لأجل البشر ننال القدرة على فعل هذه الأمور.

⁸The Lord has done such great and awe-inspiring things! How unsearchable are His deep mysteries! It’s impossible for mankind to discover all His ways. And no one knows His ways unless they’re revealed to them. Therefore, brothers and sisters, don’t disregard God’s revelations.⁹By the power of His word, mankind inherited the earth, and the earth was created by the power of His word. So if God was able to speak and the world came into existence and able to speak and mankind was created, then why can’t He command the earth or His handiwork upon it, according to His will and purposes? ¹⁰Therefore, brothers and sisters, don’t attempt to give advice to the Lord, but decide to take advice from Him. Indeed, you know He counsels wisely, justly, and very mercifully over His creation. ¹¹Therefore, dear people, be reconciled to God through the atonement of Christ, His Only Begotten Son, so you can receive a resurrection according to the power of the resurrection which is in Christ and so you can be presented to God as Christ’s first harvest, having faith and receiving the promise of glory in Him before He reveals Himself in the flesh.

⁸لقد صنع الرَّبّ أمورًا عظيمة ومهيبة! ما أعماق أسراره التي لا تُستقصى! ولا يستطيع البشر أن يكتشف جميع طرقه. ولا يعرف أحد طرقه إلا إذا أُعلنت له. لذلك، يا إخوتي وأخواتي، لا تستخفّوا بإعلانات الله. ⁹بقوة كلمته ورث البشر الأرض، وبقوة كلمته خُلقت الأرض. فإذا كان الله قد تكلّم فكانت الأرض، وتكلّم فخُلق البشر، فلماذا لا يستطيع أن يأمر الأرض أو صنع يديه عليها بحسب مشيئته ومقاصده؟ ¹⁰لذلك، يا إخوتي وأخواتي، لا تحاولوا أن تُشيروا على الرَّبّ، بل اقبلوا مشورته. فإنكم تعلمون أنه يشير بحكمة وعدل ورحمة عظيمة على جميع خليقته. ¹¹لذلك، أيها الشعب الأحباء، تصالحوا مع الله من خلال كفارة المسيح، ابنه الوحيد، لكي تنالوا قيامة بحسب قوة القيامة التي في المسيح، ولكي تُقدَّموا إلى الله كباكورة ثمره، بإيمان ونوال وعد المجد فيه قبل أن يُعلن نفسه في الجسد.

¹²Now, dear people, don’t let this surprise you. Why shouldn’t we speak of Christ’s atonement and have perfect knowledge about Him? Why not have understanding of the resurrection and the world to come?
¹³My people, those who prophesy, let them prophesy so people can understand, because the Spirit speaks the truth, not lies. Therefore it speaks of things as they really are and really will be. These things are shown to us plainly to save our souls. But we aren’t the only witnesses of these things, since God told them to former prophets.

¹²والآن، أيها الشعب الأحباء، لا تدعوا هذا يفاجئكم. فلماذا لا نتكلم عن كفارة المسيح ويكون لنا معرفة كاملة به؟ ولماذا لا يكون لنا فهم للقيامة والعالم الآتي؟ ¹³يا شعبي، أمَّا الذين يتنبَّأون منكم فليتنبَّأوا لكي يفهم الناس، لأنَّ الروح يتكلم بالحق وليس بالكذب. ولذلك فهو يتكلم عن الأمور كما هي حقًا وكما ستكون حقًا. وهذه الأمور أُعلنت لنا بوضوح لكي تُخلَّص نفوسنا. ولسنا نحن الشهود الوحيدين على هذه الأمور، لأنَّ الله أعلنها أيضًا للأنبياء الذين كانوا قبلنا.

¹⁴However the Jews were a stubborn group, and they treated plain words with disdain and killed the prophets, and only wanted things they couldn’t understand. Therefore because of their blindness, which came from looking beyond the mark, they couldn’t help but fall. So God removed His plain word from them and left them with things they can’t understand, like they wanted. Therefore God lets them puzzle and argue.

¹⁴لكن اليهود كانوا شعبًا عنيدًا، فازدروا الكلمات الواضحة وقتلوا الأنبياء، وأرادوا فقط ما لا يستطيعون فهمه. ولذلك، بسبب عماهم الذي جاء من نظرهم إلى ما وراء العلامة، لم يكن لهم بدّ إلا أن يسقطوا. فأزال الله عنهم كلمته الواضحة وترك لهم ما لا يستطيعون فهمه، كما أرادوا. ولذلك يدعهم الله يتحيّرون ويتجادلون.

¹⁵Now I prophesy by the Spirit, from the inspiration given to me, that because of the Jews’ confusion, they’ll reject the stone on which they could build a safe foundation.¹⁶According to the scriptures, this stone will prove to be the great, last, and only sure foundation offered to the Jews. ¹⁷Now, dear people, how is it possible these people, after having rejected the sure foundation, can ever build on it as their safe cornerstone? ¹⁸My dear people, I’ll explain this mystery to you if I don’t lose the Spirit of revelation and get distracted by my worry over you.

¹⁵والآن أنا أتنبأ بالروح، من الإلهام الذي أُعطي لي، أنه بسبب حيرة اليهود سيرفضون الحجر الذي كان يمكنهم أن يبنوا عليه أساسًا آمنًا. ¹⁶وبحسب الكُتُب المُقَدَّسة، فإن هذا الحجر سيكون الأساس الثابت العظيم الأخير والوحيد الذي يُقدَّم لليهود. ¹⁷والآن، أيها الشعب الأحباء، كيف يمكن لهؤلاء الناس، بعد أن رفضوا الأساس الثابت، أن يبنوا عليه يومًا ما كحجر زاويتهم الآمن؟ ¹⁸يا شعبي الأحباء، سأوضح لكم هذا السر إن لم أفقد روح الإعلان ولم أنشغل بقلقي عليكم.

¹My people, let me remind you of the words the prophet Zenos spoke about the house of Israel, saying:²Hearken, O house of Israel, and hear my words, the words of a prophet of the Lord. ³This is the Lord’s message: I’ll compare you, O house of Israel, to a tame olive tree a man took and nourished in his vineyard. And it grew, became old, and began to decay. ⁴And the lord of the vineyard went out and saw his olive tree started to decay, so he said: I’ll prune it and loosen the soil around it and tend it, so perhaps some young, tender branches will sprout and it won’t die. ⁵So he pruned it, loosened the soil around it, and tended it according to his word. ⁶After many days it began to sprout a few young and tender branches, but the main top was dying. ⁷And the lord of the vineyard saw it and said to his servant: It makes me sad to lose this tree. So go and retrieve branches from a wild olive tree and bring them here to me. Then we’ll cut off the main branches that are starting to wither away and throw them into the fire to be burned. ⁸And the lord of the vineyard said: I’ll remove many of these new, tender branches and graft them in places I choose; then it won’t matter if the original tree root dies, because I can still save its fruit for myself. Therefore I’ll take these young, tender branches and graft them in places I choose. ⁹Now take the branches of the wild olive tree and graft them in to replace them. Then I’ll throw the ones I’ve cut off into the fire and burn them, so they won’t take up space in my vineyard.

⁵يا شعبي، دعوني أُذكِّركم بكلام النبيّ زِينُوس الذي تكلَّم به عن بيت إسرائيل، قائلًا: ²أصغوا، يا بيت إسرائيل، إلى كلامي، واسمعوا كلام نبيٍّ للرَّبّ. ³هذه رسالة الرَّبّ: سأُشَبِّهكم، يا بيت إسرائيل، بشجرة زيتونٍ مستأنسة أخذها رجل وغذَّاها في كَرْمه. فنمت وشاخت وبدأت تفسد. ⁴فخرج رَبُّ الكَرْم ورأى أنَّ زيتونته بدأت تفسد، فقال: سأُقلِّمها وأُقلِّب التربة حولها وأعتني بها، لعلَّ أغصانًا غضَّةً جديدة تنبت فلا تموت. ⁵فقلَّمها وقلَّب التربة حولها واعتنى بها بحسب كلامه. ⁶وبعد أيَّامٍ كثيرة بدأت تنبت بعض أغصانٍ غضَّةٍ جديدة، لكنَّ القمَّة الرئيسية كانت تموت. ⁷فلمَّا رأى رَبُّ الكَرْم ذلك، قال لعبده: يَحزُنني أن أفقد هذه الشجرة. فاذهب وأحضر أغصانًا من شجرة زيتونٍ بريَّة وائتِ بها إليّ. ثمَّ نقطع الأغصان الرئيسية التي بدأت تذبل ونُلقيها في النار لتُحرَق. ⁸وقال رَبُّ الكَرْم: سأُزيل كثيرًا من هذه الأغصان الغضَّة الجديدة وأُطعِّمها في المواضع التي أختارها؛ فلا يهمّ إن مات أصل الشجرة، لأنِّي أستطيع أن أحفظ ثمرها لنفسي. لذلك آخذ هذه الأغصان الغضَّة الجديدة وأُطعِّمها في المواضع التي أختارها. ⁹والآن خُذ أغصان شجرة الزيتون البريَّة وطعِّمها في مكانها. ثمَّ أُلقي تلك التي قطعتُها في النار وأُحرقها، لكي لا تشغل مكانًا في كَرْمي.

¹⁰And the servant of the lord of the vineyard followed the lord of the vineyard’s plan and grafted in the branches of the wild olive tree.¹¹And the lord of the vineyard had it tilled, pruned, and tended, saying to his servant: It makes me sad to lose this tree; so I’ve done this to perhaps be able to keep its roots alive, so they don’t die, because I would like to save them for myself. ¹²Therefore follow the plan; watch the tree and tend it following my instructions. ¹³And I’ll place these branches in the lowest parts of my vineyard, where I choose, and that isn’t your concern. I’ll do this in order to save the tree’s natural branches for myself and to store its fruit for myself in preparation for the harvest time. Because it would make me sad to lose this tree and its fruit.

¹⁰فاتَّبع عَبْد رَبِّ الكَرْم خطَّة رَبِّ الكَرْم، وطعَّم أغصان شجرة الزيتون البريَّة. ¹¹وأمر رَبُّ الكَرْم أن تُحرَث وتُقلَّم ويُعتنى بها، وقال لعبده: يَحزُنني أن أفقد هذه الشجرة؛ ولذلك فعلتُ هذا لعلِّي أستطيع أن أحفظ جذورها حيَّة، فلا تموت، لأنِّي أرغب أن أحفظها لنفسي. ¹²فاتَّبع الخطَّة، وراقب الشجرة واعتنِ بها بحسب تعليماتي. ¹³وأنا سأضع هذه الأغصان في أدنى مواضع كَرْمي حيث أختار، وذلك ليس من شأنك. إنَّما أفعل هذا لأحفظ لنفسي الأغصان الطبيعية للشجرة ولأخزِّن ثمرها لنفسي استعدادًا لوقت الحصاد. لأنَّه يَحزُنني أن أفقد هذه الشجرة وثمرها.

¹⁴And the lord of the vineyard went his way and hid the natural branches of the tame olive tree in the lowest parts of the vineyard, some in one part and some in another, according to his deliberate plan. ¹⁵After a long time had elapsed, the lord of the vineyard said to his servant: Come, let’s return to the vineyard to work there.

¹⁴ومضى رَبُّ الكَرْم في طريقه وخبَّأ الأغصان الطبيعية لشجرة الزيتون المستأنسة في أدنى مواضع الكَرْم، بعضها في موضع وبعضها في آخر، بحسب خطَّته المقصودة. ¹⁵وبعد أن مضى وقت طويل، قال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: تعال، لنعد إلى الكَرْم لنعمل فيه.

¹⁶Then the lord of the vineyard with his servant returned to work in the vineyard. The servant said to his master: Oh good! Look here! Inspect this tree. ¹⁷And the lord of the vineyard looked and saw the tree where the wild olive branches had been grafted in. It had sprouted and begun to produce fruit. He saw it was good and its fruit was like the natural fruit. ¹⁸He said to his servant: See, the wild tree’s branches have taken hold of the root’s vitality, so that the root has provided them with vigor. And because of the root’s vitality, the wild branches have produced tame fruit. If we hadn’t grafted in these branches, the tree would have died. Therefore I’ll store plenty of fruit that this tree has now produced. I’ll store the fruit for myself as part of the harvest.

¹⁶ثمَّ رجع رَبُّ الكَرْم مع عبده ليعملا في الكَرْم. فقال العَبْد لسيِّده: ما أحسن! انظر هنا! تفحَّص هذه الشجرة. ¹⁷فنظر رَبُّ الكَرْم ورأى الشجرة التي طُعِّمت فيها أغصان شجرة الزيتون البريَّة. وكانت قد نمت وبدأت تُنتج ثمرًا. فرأى أنَّها جيِّدة وأنَّ ثمرها مثل الثمر الطبيعي. ¹⁸فقال لعبده: انظر، لقد أمسكت أغصان الشجرة البريَّة بحيوية الأصل، حتى إنَّ الأصل قد أمدَّها بعنفوان. وبسبب حيوية الأصل، أنتجت الأغصان البريَّة ثمرًا مستأنسًا. ولو لم نكن قد طعَّمنا هذه الأغصان، لكانت الشجرة قد ماتت. لذلك سأخزِّن كثيرًا من الثمر الذي أنتجته هذه الشجرة الآن، وأحتفظ به لنفسي كجزء من الحصاد.

¹⁹The lord of the vineyard then told the servant: Come, let’s go to the lowest parts of the vineyard and see if the tree’s natural branches have also produced a lot of fruit, so I can store the fruit for myself as part of the harvest. ²⁰And they went out to where the lord of the vineyard had hidden the tree’s natural branches, and he said to the servant: Look at these! He saw the first tree had produced plenty of fruit, and he saw it also was good. Then he told the servant: I’ve tended it a long time, and it has produced plenty of fruit. So take the fruit of the tree and store it as part of the harvest, so I can save it for myself.

¹⁹ثمَّ قال رَبُّ الكَرْم للعبد: تعال، لنذهب إلى أدنى مواضع الكَرْم ونرى هل أنتجت الأغصان الطبيعية للشجرة أيضًا ثمرًا كثيرًا، لكي أخزِّن الثمر لنفسي كجزء من الحصاد. ²⁰فخرجا إلى الموضع الذي خبَّأ فيه رَبُّ الكَرْم الأغصان الطبيعية للشجرة، فقال لعبده: انظر إلى هذه! فرأى أنَّ الشجرة الأولى قد أنتجت ثمرًا كثيرًا، ورأى أنَّه أيضًا كان جيِّدًا. ثمَّ قال لعبده: لقد اعتنيتُ بها زمنًا طويلًا، وقد أنتجت ثمرًا كثيرًا. فخذ ثمر الشجرة وخزِّنه كجزء من الحصاد، لكي أحتفظ به لنفسي.

²¹The servant asked his master: How was it that you came to plant this tree or this tree branch here? It was the poorest spot in the whole vineyard. ²²But the lord of the vineyard replied: Don’t complain about it, I knew it was a poor spot of ground. That’s why I told you that I gave it attention and cared for it a long time, and you see it has produced plenty of fruit.

²¹فسأل العَبْد سيِّده: كيف جئتَ لتغرس هذه الشجرة أو هذا الغصن هنا؟ إنَّه أفقر موضع في كل الكَرْم. ²²فأجاب رَبُّ الكَرْم: لا تتذمَّر من ذلك، فقد علمتُ أنَّه موضع فقير من الأرض. ولهذا قلتُ لك إنِّي اهتممتُ به واعتنيتُ به زمنًا طويلًا، وأنت ترى أنَّه قد أنتج ثمرًا كثيرًا.

²³Then the lord of the vineyard said to his servant: Look here! I’ve also planted another branch of the tree, and you know this spot of ground was poorer than the first. But look at the tree! I’ve tended it a long time and it has produced plenty of fruit. Therefore gather it and store it as part of the harvest, so I can save it for myself.

²³ثمَّ قال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: انظر هنا! لقد غرستُ أيضًا غصنًا آخر من الشجرة، وأنت تعلم أنَّ هذا الموضع من الأرض كان أفقر من الأوَّل. ولكن انظر إلى الشجرة! لقد اعتنيتُ بها زمنًا طويلًا وقد أنتجت ثمرًا كثيرًا. فاجمعه وخزِّنه كجزء من الحصاد، لكي أحتفظ به لنفسي.

²⁴Then the lord of the vineyard said again to his servant: Look here and see another branch I’ve planted. I’ve tended it too, and it has produced fruit. ²⁵And he told the servant: Look here and see the last one! I’ve planted this one in a very favorable spot and tended it a long time. And only part of the tree has produced tame fruit, but the other part of the tree has produced wild fruit. I’ve tended this tree like the others.

²⁴ثمَّ قال رَبُّ الكَرْم أيضًا لعبده: انظر هنا وانظر غصنًا آخر قد غرستُه. وقد اعتنيتُ به أيضًا، وقد أنتج ثمرًا. ²⁵ثمَّ قال لعبده: انظر هنا وانظر الأخير! لقد غرستُ هذا في موضع موات جدًّا واعتنيتُ به زمنًا طويلًا. وقد أنتج جزء من الشجرة ثمرًا مستأنسًا، وأنتج الجزء الآخر من الشجرة ثمرًا بريًّا. وقد اعتنيتُ بهذه الشجرة كما اعتنيتُ بالأخريات.

²⁶Later the lord of the vineyard told his servant: Cut off the branches that haven’t produced good fruit and throw them into the fire. ²⁷But the servant said to him: Let’s prune it, loosen the soil around it, and tend it a little longer, so it will perhaps produce good fruit for you, so you can store it as part of the harvest. ²⁸So the lord of the vineyard and his servant cared for all the vineyard’s fruit.

²⁶وفي وقت لاحق، قال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: اقطع الأغصان التي لم تُنتج ثمرًا جيِّدًا وألقِها في النار. ²⁷لكنَّ العَبْد قال له: لنقلِّمها ونقلِّب التربة حولها ونعتنِ بها قليلًا بعد، لعلَّها تُنتج لك ثمرًا جيِّدًا فتخزِّنه كجزء من الحصاد. ²⁸فاعتنى رَبُّ الكَرْم وعبده بجميع ثمر الكَرْم.

²⁹After a long time had passed, the lord of the vineyard told his servant: Come, let’s return to the vineyard to work there again. Because the time approaches and the end is coming soon, therefore I must store fruit before the final harvest arrives. ³⁰Then the lord of the vineyard and the servant returned to the vineyard and came to the tree whose natural branches had been taken off and which had wild branches grafted in, and all kinds of fruit weighed down the tree.

²⁹وبعد أن مضى وقت طويل، قال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: تعال، لنعد إلى الكَرْم لنعمل فيه ثانيةً. لأنَّ الوقت يقترب والنهاية قادمة قريبًا، لذلك يجب أن أُخزِّن ثمرًا قبل أن يأتي الحصاد الأخير. ³⁰ثمَّ رجع رَبُّ الكَرْم والعَبْد إلى الكَرْم، وأتيا إلى الشجرة التي قُطعت أغصانها الطبيعية وطُعِّمت فيها الأغصان البريَّة، وكانت كل أنواع الثمر تُثقل الشجرة.

³¹And the lord of the vineyard tasted the fruit, every kind that had grown there. And the lord of the vineyard said: We’ve tended this tree a long time, and I’ve stored plenty of fruit for myself in preparation for the harvest. ³²Now it has produced plenty of fruit, although none of it’s good; there are all kinds of bad fruit, and it’s of no use to me, despite all our work. Now it makes me sad to lose this tree. ³³And the lord of the vineyard said to the servant: What else can we do for the tree so that I can again obtain good fruit for myself? ³⁴And the servant said to his master: Because you grafted in the wild olive tree’s branches, they’ve saved the roots, so they’re still alive and haven’t died; and you can see they’re still good.

³¹فتذوَّق رَبُّ الكَرْم الثمر، كل نوع نما هناك. فقال رَبُّ الكَرْم: لقد اعتنينا بهذه الشجرة زمنًا طويلًا، وقد خزَّنتُ لنفسي ثمرًا كثيرًا استعدادًا للحصاد. ³²والآن قد أنتجت ثمرًا كثيرًا، لكن لا شيء منه جيِّد؛ بل فيه كل أنواع الثمر الرديء، ولا فائدة لي منه على الرغم من كل عملنا. والآن يَحزُنني أن أفقد هذه الشجرة. ³³فقال رَبُّ الكَرْم للعبد: ماذا أيضًا يمكننا أن نفعل للشجرة لكي أحصل ثانيةً على ثمر جيِّد لنفسي؟ ³⁴فقال العَبْد لسيِّده: لأنَّك طعَّمتَ أغصان شجرة الزيتون البريَّة، فقد حفظت الجذور، فلا تزال حيَّة ولم تمت؛ وأنت ترى أنَّها لا تزال جيِّدة.

³⁵Then the lord of the vineyard told his servant: The tree is of no use to me and its roots are of no use to me so long as it produces bad fruit. ³⁶However, I know the roots are good, and I’ve kept them alive as part of my plans. And because of their great vitality, they’ve produced good fruit from the wild branches until now. ³⁷But the wild branches have grown and overrun the roots. And because the wild branches have overcome the roots, the tree has produced a lot of bad fruit. And because it has produced so much bad fruit, you see it’s beginning to die. It will soon be lost, reaching the point that we’ll need to throw it into the fire unless we do something to keep it from dying.

³⁵ثمَّ قال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: لا فائدة لي من الشجرة ولا فائدة لي من جذورها ما دامت تُنتج ثمرًا رديئًا. ³⁶غير أنِّي أعلم أنَّ الجذور جيِّدة، وقد أبقيتها حيَّة كجزء من خططي. وبسبب حيويتها العظيمة، أنتجت ثمرًا جيِّدًا من الأغصان البريَّة حتى الآن. ³⁷لكنَّ الأغصان البريَّة قد نمت وطغت على الجذور. ولأنَّ الأغصان البريَّة قد طغت على الجذور، أنتجت الشجرة ثمرًا رديئًا كثيرًا. ولأنَّها قد أنتجت ثمرًا رديئًا كثيرًا، فأنت ترى أنَّها بدأت تموت. وستضيع قريبًا، ونصل إلى نقطة نحتاج فيها أن نُلقيها في النار، ما لم نفعل شيئًا لنمنعها من الموت.

³⁸Then the lord of the vineyard told his servant: Let’s go down into the lowest parts of the vineyard and see if the natural branches have also produced bad fruit. ³⁹So they went down into the lowest parts of the vineyard and saw the fruit of the natural branches had also become corrupt — the first, second, and last — they had all become corrupt. ⁴⁰And the wild fruit of the last one had overcome that part of the tree that once produced good fruit, to the point that the good branch had withered away and died.

³⁸فقال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: تعال، لننزل إلى أدنى مواضع الكَرْم لنرى هل أنتجت الأغصان الطبيعية أيضًا ثمرًا رديئًا. ³⁹فنزلا إلى أدنى مواضع الكَرْم، فرأيا أنَّ ثمر الأغصان الطبيعية أيضًا قد فسد — الأوَّل والثاني والأخير — جميعها قد فسدت. ⁴⁰وقد طغى الثمر البري للأخيرة على ذلك الجزء من الشجرة الذي أنتج ثمرًا جيِّدًا في السابق، حتى ذبل الغصن الجيِّد ومات.

⁴¹Then the lord of the vineyard mourned and asked the servant: What more could I have done for my vineyard? ⁴²I knew that all the vineyard’s fruit, except for these, had become corrupt. Now these that once produced good fruit have also become corrupt. All my vineyard’s trees are now good for nothing and will need to be cut down and thrown into the fire. ⁴³I planted this last one, whose branch has withered away, in a good spot of ground — indeed, a place I valued above all other parts of my vineyard.

⁴¹فناح رَبُّ الكَرْم وقال لعبده: ماذا أيضًا كان يمكنني أن أفعل لكَرْمي؟ ⁴²لقد علمتُ أنَّ كل ثمر الكَرْم قد فسد، إلَّا هذه؛ والآن قد فسدت هذه أيضًا التي أنتجت ثمرًا جيِّدًا في السابق. والآن جميع أشجار كَرْمي لا خير فيها سوى أن تُقطع وتُلقى في النار. ⁴³وها أنا قد غرستُ هذه الأخيرة، التي ذبل غصنها، في موضع جيِّد من الأرض — موضع كان عزيزًا عليّ من بين كل مواضع كَرْمي.

⁴⁴And you see I also cut down what was growing in this spot of ground so I could plant this tree in its place. ⁴⁵You can see that part of it produced good fruit and the other part produced wild fruit. Because I didn’t cut off its bad branches and throw them into the fire, they’ve overcome the good branch, so it has withered away. ⁴⁶Now, despite all the care we’ve given to my vineyard, all its trees have become corrupt, so they don’t produce any good fruit. I was hoping to save these, to have stored up fruit for myself as part of the harvest. But they’ve become like the wild olive tree, and they’re of no value except to be cut down and thrown into the fire. And it makes me sad to lose them.⁴⁷But what more could I have done in my vineyard? Have I neglected my work and failed to tend it? No, I’ve tended it and I’ve loosened the soil around it, I’ve pruned it, I’ve fertilized it, and I’ve worked my hand almost the whole day, and now the end is approaching. It makes me sad that I must cut down all my vineyard’s trees and throw them into the fire to be burned. What’s ruined my vineyard?

⁴⁴وقد قطعتُ ما كان ينمو في ذلك الموضع كي أغرس هذه الشجرة مكانه. ⁴⁵وها هو نصفها قد أنتج ثمرًا جيِّدًا، ونصفها الآخر أنتج ثمرًا بريًّا؛ ولأنِّي لم أقطع أغصانها الرديئة وألقها في النار، طغت على الغصن الجيِّد فذبل. ⁴⁶والآن، على الرغم من كل العمل الذي قمنا به في كَرْمي، قد فسدت جميع أشجار كَرْمي ولم تُنتج ثمرًا جيِّدًا. كنتُ أرغب أن أحفظ هذه لكي أخزِّن لنفسي ثمرًا كجزء من الحصاد. وها هي قد صارت كشجرة الزيتون البريَّة، ولا فائدة منها سوى أن تُقطع وتُلقى في النار، ويَحزُنني أن أفقدها. ⁴⁷ولكن ماذا أيضًا كان يمكنني أن أفعل في كَرْمي؟ هل أهملتُ عملي ولم أعتنِ به؟ لا، فقد اعتنيتُ به وقلَّبتُ التربة حوله، وقلَّمتُه، وسمَّدتُه، وعملتُ بيدي طوال النهار تقريبًا، والآن النهاية تقترب. ويَحزُنني أنَّه يجب أن أقطع جميع أشجار كَرْمي وأُلقيها في النار لتُحرَق. ما الذي أفسد كَرْمي؟

⁴⁸Then the servant asked his master: Isn’t it your vineyard’s ambitious overgrowth? Haven’t the branches overgrown the good roots? And because the branches have overgrown their roots — growing faster than the strength of their roots, taking strength to themselves — I ask, Isn’t this the reason your vineyard’s trees have become corrupted?

⁴⁸فسأل العَبْد سيِّده: أليس ذلك بسبب نموّ كَرْمك المُفرِط الطموح؟ ألم تتجاوز الأغصان الجذور الجيِّدة في النموّ؟ ولأنَّ الأغصان قد تجاوزت جذورها في النموّ — إذ نمت أسرع من قوَّة جذورها، فأخذت لنفسها قوَّتها — أتساءل: أليس هذا هو السبب في أنَّ أشجار كَرْمك قد فسدت؟

⁴⁹The lord of the vineyard told his servant: Let’s go ahead and cut down the vineyard’s trees and throw them in the fire, so they don’t take up space in my vineyard — I’ve done everything I could. What more could I have done? ⁵⁰But the servant said to the lord of the vineyard: Wait a little longer. ⁵¹And the lord of the vineyard replied: Yes, I want to give it more time, because it makes me sad to lose my vineyard’s trees. ⁵²Therefore let’s take some of the original branches I’ve transplanted to the lowest parts of my vineyard and graft them into the tree they came from. And let’s cut from the tree the branches with the most bitter fruit and graft in the tree’s original branches in their place. ⁵³I’ll do this so the tree won’t die, so that perhaps I might save the roots for myself and for my own purpose. ⁵⁴And the roots of the tree from which I took the original branches are still alive; therefore, to also save them as part of my plan, I’ll take some of the tree’s original branches and graft them back. I’ll graft the original branches back to the roots of the original tree, so I can also save the roots for myself, so that when they’re strong enough, they might produce good fruit for me, and I can still celebrate my vineyard’s fruit.

⁴⁹فقال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: لنذهب ونقطع أشجار الكَرْم ونُلقها في النار، حتى لا تشغل مكانًا في كَرْمي — فقد فعلتُ كل ما كان بوسعي. ماذا أيضًا كان يمكنني أن أفعل؟ ⁵⁰لكنَّ العَبْد قال لرَبِّ الكَرْم: انتظر قليلًا بعد. ⁵¹فأجاب رَبُّ الكَرْم: نعم، أرغب أن أُعطيها مزيدًا من الوقت، لأنَّه يَحزُنني أن أفقد أشجار كَرْمي. ⁵²لذلك لنأخذ بعض الأغصان الأصلية التي نقلتُها إلى أدنى مواضع كَرْمي ونُطعِّمها في الشجرة التي جاءت منها. ولنقطع من الشجرة الأغصان ذات الثمر الأكثر مرارةً ونُطعِّم في مكانها الأغصان الأصلية للشجرة. ⁵³سأفعل هذا حتى لا تموت الشجرة، لعلِّي أحفظ الجذور لنفسي ولغرضي. ⁵⁴وجذور الشجرة التي أخذتُ منها الأغصان الأصلية لا تزال حيَّة؛ ولذلك، لكي أحفظها أيضًا كجزء من خطَّتي، سآخذ بعض الأغصان الأصلية للشجرة وأُطعِّمها من جديد. سأُطعِّم الأغصان الأصلية في جذور الشجرة الأصلية، لكي أحفظ لنفسي الجذور أيضًا، فعندما تشتدّ بما يكفي، فلعلَّها تُنتج لي ثمرًا جيِّدًا، وأظلّ أحتفل بثمر كَرْمي.

⁵⁵So they took branches from the original tree that had become wild and grafted them into the original tree that also had become wild. ⁵⁶They also took branches from the original tree that had become wild and grafted them into their original tree’s root. ⁵⁷And the lord of the vineyard said to the servant: Only cut away the most bitter, wild branches from the trees. And graft in their place according to my instructions. ⁵⁸We’ll tend the vineyard’s trees again and trim their branches and cut from the trees the ripe branches, which have to be destroyed, and throw them into the fire. ⁵⁹I’m doing this to let their roots perhaps regain strength because they’re still promising and because changing the branches will let the good overcome the evil. ⁶⁰Now I’ve saved the natural branches and their roots and grafted the natural branches into their mother tree again and kept the mother tree’s roots from dying. That way my vineyard’s trees can perhaps produce good fruit again, and so I can celebrate with my vineyard’s fruit. Maybe I’ll be able to have great results because I’ve kept the roots and branches of the original plant alive. ⁶¹Now go ahead and call servants, so we can work diligently with our strength in the vineyard, so we can prepare the vineyard to again yield the best good fruit as I originally had in my vineyard.

⁵⁵فأخذا أغصانًا من الشجرة الأصلية التي صارت بريَّة وطعَّماها في الشجرة الأصلية التي صارت بريَّة هي أيضًا. ⁵⁶وأخذا أيضًا أغصانًا من الشجرة الأصلية التي صارت بريَّة وطعَّماها في جذور الشجرة الأصلية. ⁵⁷فقال رَبُّ الكَرْم لعبده: لا تقطع من الأشجار إلا الأغصان البريَّة الأكثر مرارةً. واطعِّم في مكانها بحسب تعليماتي. ⁵⁸وسنعتني بأشجار الكَرْم ثانيةً ونُقلِّم أغصانها ونقطع من الأشجار الأغصان الناضجة، التي يجب أن تُتلف، ونُلقيها في النار. ⁵⁹أنا أفعل هذا لكي تستعيد جذورها قوَّتها لعلَّها لا تزال واعدة، ولأنَّ تغيير الأغصان سيجعل الجيِّد يطغى على الشرّ. ⁶⁰والآن قد حفظتُ الأغصان الطبيعية وجذورها وطعَّمتُ الأغصان الطبيعية في شجرتها الأم من جديد ومنعتُ جذور الشجرة الأم من الموت. وبهذا تستطيع أشجار كَرْمي لعلَّها أن تُنتج ثمرًا جيِّدًا ثانيةً، فأحتفل بثمر كَرْمي. وربَّما أستطيع أن أُحقِّق نتائج عظيمة لأنِّي حفظتُ جذور وأغصان النبتة الأصلية حيَّة. ⁶¹والآن اذهب وادعُ عبيدًا، لكي نعمل بكل اجتهاد بقوَّتنا في الكَرْم، فنُهيِّئ الكَرْم لكي يُنتج ثانيةً أفضل ثمر جيِّد كما كان لي في كَرْمي من قبل.

⁶²Therefore let’s go work hard this last time — the end is approaching, and this is the last time I’ll prune my vineyard. ⁶³Graft in the branches — begin with the last so they can be first and so the first can be last — and loosen the soil around the trees, both old and young — the first and the last, and the last and the first — so everything can be tended again for the last time. ⁶⁴Loosen the soil around them and prune them and fertilize them once more for the last time — the end is approaching. And if it turns out these last grafts grow and produce natural fruit, then you will trim away so they can grow. ⁶⁵As they begin to grow, you must clear away the branches that produce bitter fruit, as the good gains size and strength. But you must not clear away the bad all at once as that would let the roots be too strong for the graft, because we don’t want the graft to die, and I don’t want to lose my vineyard’s trees. ⁶⁶It would make me sad to lose the trees of my vineyard. Therefore you must clear away the bad in proportion to the growth of the good, so the root and top will be equal in strength until the good overgrows the bad and the bad is cut down and thrown in the fire, so they don’t take up space in my vineyard. This will be how I’ll rid my vineyard of the bad. ⁶⁷I’ll graft the branches of the original tree back into the original tree, ⁶⁸and I’ll graft the branches of the original tree into the tree’s original branches. This is how I’ll bring them back together, so they will produce the original fruit again and be united. ⁶⁹The bad will be thrown out — including from my entire vineyard. I’ll prune my vineyard just this last time.

⁶²لذلك لنذهب ولنعمل بجدّ هذه المرَّة الأخيرة — فالنهاية تقترب، وهذه آخر مرَّة سأُقلِّم فيها كَرْمي. ⁶³اطعِّم الأغصان — ابدأ بالأخيرة لكي تصير أوَّلًا ولكي تصير الأولى أخيرة — وقلِّب التربة حول الأشجار، الكبيرة منها والصغيرة — الأوَّل والأخير، والأخير والأوَّل — لكي يُعتنى بكل شيء ثانيةً للمرَّة الأخيرة. ⁶⁴قلِّب التربة حولها وقلِّمها وسمِّدها مرَّة أخرى للمرَّة الأخيرة — فالنهاية تقترب. وإذا تبيَّن أنَّ هذه الطعوم الأخيرة قد نمت وأنتجت ثمرًا طبيعيًّا، فستُقلِّمها لكي تنمو. ⁶⁵وكلَّما بدأت تنمو، يجب أن تُزيل الأغصان التي تُنتج ثمرًا مرًّا، كلَّما اشتدَّ الجيِّد ونما. لكن لا تُزِل الرديء كله دفعة واحدة، فبذلك تكون الجذور أقوى من الطعم، ولا نريد أن يموت الطعم، ولا أرغب أن أفقد أشجار كَرْمي. ⁶⁶يَحزُنني أن أفقد أشجار كَرْمي. لذلك يجب أن تُزيل الرديء بمقدار نموّ الجيِّد، حتى يتساوى الجذر والقمَّة في القوَّة، إلى أن يطغى الجيِّد على الرديء، فيُقطع الرديء ويُلقى في النار، حتى لا يشغل مكانًا في كَرْمي. هكذا أُخلِّص كَرْمي من الرديء. ⁶⁷سأُطعِّم أغصان الشجرة الأصلية ثانيةً في الشجرة الأصلية، ⁶⁸وسأُطعِّم أغصان الشجرة الأصلية في الأغصان الأصلية للشجرة. وهكذا أُعيدها معًا، فتُنتج الثمر الأصلي ثانيةً وتصير واحدة. ⁶⁹والرديء سيُطرح خارجًا — حتى من كل كَرْمي. ولن أُقلِّم كَرْمي إلا هذه المرَّة الأخيرة.

⁷⁰Then the lord of the vineyard sent his servant, and the servant went and did as the lord had commanded him and brought a few other servants. ⁷¹And the lord of the vineyard told them: Get started and work hard in the vineyard. This is the last time I’ll tend my vineyard — the end is near and the harvest is coming quickly. If you work hard with me, you’ll have joy in the fruit that I’ll harvest for myself at the end of the growing season.

⁷⁰فأرسل رَبُّ الكَرْم عبده، فذهب العَبْد وفعل كما أمره رَبُّ الكَرْم، وأحضر معه عبيدًا قليلين آخرين. ⁷¹وقال لهم رَبُّ الكَرْم: ابدأوا واعملوا بجدّ في الكَرْم. هذه آخر مرَّة سأعتني فيها بكَرْمي — فالنهاية قريبة والحصاد قادم سريعًا. وإن عملتم معي بجدّ، فستفرحون بالثمر الذي سأحصده لنفسي في نهاية موسم النموّ.

⁷²Then the servants went ahead and worked hard, and the lord of the vineyard also worked with them. And they obeyed the lord of the vineyard’s direction in all things. ⁷³And original fruit again grew in the vineyard, and the original branches began to grow and produce abundantly, and the wild branches began to be cut off and thrown away. And they kept the root and the top equal based on their strength. ⁷⁴This is how they worked with all diligence according to the lord of the vineyard’s commandments, until the bad had been thrown out of the vineyard and the lord had saved the good for himself, so the trees had again produced the original fruit. And they became like one body and the fruit was equally good; and the lord of the vineyard had saved the original fruit for himself, which was most valuable to him from the beginning.

⁷²فمضى العبيد وعملوا بجدّ، وعمل رَبُّ الكَرْم معهم. وأطاعوا توجيهات رَبِّ الكَرْم في كل شيء. ⁷³ونما الثمر الأصلي ثانيةً في الكَرْم، وبدأت الأغصان الأصلية تنمو وتُنتج بوفرة، وبدأت الأغصان البريَّة تُقطع وتُلقى بعيدًا. وحفظوا توازن الجذر والقمَّة بحسب قوَّتهما. ⁷⁴وهكذا عملوا بكل اجتهاد بحسب وصايا رَبِّ الكَرْم، إلى أن طُرح الرديء خارج الكَرْم وحفظ رَبُّ الكَرْم الجيِّد لنفسه، فعادت الأشجار تُنتج الثمر الأصلي. وصارت كجسد واحد وثمرها متساوٍ في الجودة؛ وحفظ رَبُّ الكَرْم لنفسه الثمر الأصلي، الذي كان منذ البدء أعزّ ما لديه.

⁷⁵When the lord of the vineyard saw his fruit was good and his vineyard was no longer corrupt, he called up his servants and told them: We’ve tended my vineyard for the last time. You see I’ve followed my plans and have saved the original fruit, so it’s good just like it was in the beginning. And you are blessed since you’ve been diligent in working with me in my vineyard and have followed my instructions — and it has produced the original fruit for me again, so that my vineyard is no longer corrupt and the bad is thrown away — and you’ll celebrate with me over my vineyard’s fruit. ⁷⁶I’ll store my vineyard’s fruit for myself for a long time as we prepare for the end of the growing season, which is coming quickly. I’ve tended my vineyard for the last time and pruned, tilled, and fertilized it. Therefore I’ll store the fruit for myself for a long time, as I had planned. ⁷⁷And when the time comes that evil fruit again grows in my vineyard, then I’ll have the good and bad gathered, and I’ll store the good for myself and throw the bad away into its own place. And then the final season ends, and it will be time for my vineyard to be burned with fire.

⁷⁵ولمَّا رأى رَبُّ الكَرْم أنَّ ثمره جيِّد وأنَّ كَرْمه لم يعد فاسدًا، دعا عبيده وقال لهم: لقد اعتنينا بكَرْمي للمرَّة الأخيرة. ترون أنِّي قد اتَّبعتُ خططي وحفظتُ الثمر الأصلي، فهو جيِّد كما كان في البداية. وأنتم مباركون لأنَّكم اجتهدتم في العمل معي في كَرْمي وأطعتم تعليماتي — وقد أنتج كَرْمي الثمر الأصلي ثانيةً، فلم يعد كَرْمي فاسدًا، وقد أُلقي الرديء بعيدًا — وستحتفلون معي بثمر كَرْمي. ⁷⁶وسأخزِّن ثمر كَرْمي لنفسي زمنًا طويلًا فيما نستعدّ لنهاية موسم النموّ، التي تقترب سريعًا. فقد اعتنيتُ بكَرْمي للمرَّة الأخيرة وقلَّمتُه وحرثتُه وسمَّدتُه. لذلك سأخزِّن الثمر لنفسي زمنًا طويلًا، كما خطَّطتُ. ⁷⁷وعندما يأتي الوقت الذي يعود فيه ثمر شرّير لينمو في كَرْمي، حينئذٍ أجمع الجيِّد والرديء، وأخزِّن الجيِّد لنفسي وأطرح الرديء إلى مكانه. ثمَّ ينتهي الموسم الأخير، ويحين الوقت ليُحرَق كَرْمي بالنار.
